Shopify payouts, explained
Shopify payout schedule: when do you actually get paid?
An order today doesn't mean money tomorrow. Here's the real timeline from checkout to bank deposit, and why the schedule sometimes seems to skip.
A plain-English guide for store owners
The timeline, step by step
- Day 0 — the sale. The charge succeeds and enters your pending balance.
- The pay period. Funds sit for your country's rolling delay (business days only). This is the wait people underestimate.
- Payout day. Eligible funds are bundled into a payout — minus fees, refunds and any reserve — and sent.
- Bank credit. Your bank posts it 1-3 business days later.
Why the deposit isn't the sum of those orders
The payout that finally lands is a batch: gross sales minus processing fees, minus any refunds and chargebacks that hit the same window, plus or minus reserves and currency conversion. Two orders from the same day can even land in different payouts. That's why matching deposits to orders by eye never quite works — you reconcile the payout, not the orders.

Frequently asked
How long does a Shopify payout take to reach my bank?
After the payout is sent, most banks credit it in 1-3 business days (ACH/BACS timing). The bigger delay is usually before that: your rolling pay period decides when an order's funds become eligible for a payout at all.
What is the Shopify Payments pay period?
It's the delay between a customer paying and those funds joining a payout — commonly a few business days, and it varies by country. Weekend and holiday orders wait for the next business day, which is why Monday orders and Friday orders can land in different payouts.
Why did my payout skip a day?
Payouts only go out on business days. Bank holidays in your country (or the processing bank's) shift the whole schedule, and a failed payout — say a changed bank account — pauses everything until it's fixed.
Can I get my Shopify payouts faster?
You can switch payout frequency in Settings → Payments (daily, weekly, monthly). Frequency changes when payouts are sent, not how fast an order's funds become eligible — the pay period stays the same either way.
